作者简介 詹姆斯•T. 施莱费尔，美国新罗谢尔学院历史学教授、图书馆名誉馆长,曾担任巴黎大学、耶鲁大学访问教授。他以对托克维尔的长期深入研究而享誉国际学术界，是《民主在美国》（2009年新版）的英译者，受法国政府委托担任《托克维尔全集》国家编纂委员会委员（委员会中唯一的非法国学者）。他的代表作《托克维尔〈民主在美国〉的形成》（The Making of Tocqueville’s “Democracy in America”） 被译为多种语言，曾获得美国思想史领域最高荣誉“默尔•柯蒂奖” ( Merle Curti Prize)以及美国法国史学会颁发的“吉尔贝•希纳尔奖”（Gilbert Chinard Incentive Award）。 译者简介 盛仁杰，北京大学历史学博士，译有《托克维尔传：革命时代的民主先知》等。
